N on Route 1 to the new nice Cowell-Purisima Trail to usual spot at Rope Beach (aka Cowell Beach). Back up Whitmore Gulch Trail and down Chinquapin etc Trails to Raymundo (trail now has many water bars – unrideable). Great pie, Pliny the Elder and Red Birch Beer floats at Geoff’s afterwards.

Attempted to descend Hawkins Ridge Trail, but after 3 conversations with a nice ranger, went down Tunitas Ck Rd to Lobitos Cutoff to Verde Rd to Route 1 to the normal beach spot. Up via Whitmore Gulch Trail to Skyline, then down via Chinquapin/Dean/ Crystal Springs/Richards trails, and out via Raymundo Dr. Followed by 4.8 lb apple pie and many quarts of ice cream.
Warm except foggy/wet on Skyline. Finished 3:40 am.

From Highland Way to Buzzard Lagoon Rd via logging road to Niscene Marks fire road to upper entrance of Soquel Demonstration Forest. Long single track descent on Ridge trail to Saw Pit trail to Hihn’s Mill fireroad. Numerous crashes along lower Ridge trail culminating in the endo which taco’ed Dave’s rear wheel. Fixed the wheel using a PowerBar wrapper, lots of electrical tape, a new tube and Geoff’s foot. 4.5 mile 1000′ climb to the park exit at Highland Way for all but Lyle who took a wrong turn up Sulphur Springs Trail. Bruce and Jay searched and found him near the top of Sulphur Springs Trail.

From near UC Santa Cruz up to Pogonip Gate to Cowell College. Fire roads to Empire Grade, through Gray Whale ranch to the back of Wilder Ranch. Fireroad, then singletrack followed by traversing miles of muddy fields and through Young Ranch to Meder St and back.

From Los Gatos up Los Gatos Creek Trail to Lexington Dam. Across rpiyr17 up Black Road to fireroad at 1900′ to Lake Ranch Res with a little excitement when Nathan rode off a cliff. Followed fireroad contouring SE eventually connecting to Montevina Rd. Up to El Sereno Open Space, then down to Sheldon Rd getting lost and fixing Lyle’s broken chain.
Steep climbing, some mud. Beautiful cold night.

From Los Gatos up Sheldon Rd to Bohlman Rd. Explored Maillard Rd in attempting to connect to Black Rd. Back up, and took McGill Rd to end, down fireroad to gate. Crossed, and narrowly escaped dogs and a scarecrow with a rifle. Eventually made it to Ambrose Rd to Sanborn Rd to Route 9 to home.
Moderate but exciting ride. Weather perfect.

2:30 am Lyle crashes.
2:45 am Arrive at Skyline Blvd.
3:00 am Start down Chinquapin Trail in Huddert Park
4:10 am Geoff and Nathan sprayed by a skunk.
4:15 am Exit Huddert Park.
4:37 am Finish Ride. Time for more beer and cookies.
5:20 am Lyle and Nathan start drive back to Skyline.

Strenuous ride, some steep sections virtually unrideable.
Moon was great, and partially eclipsed at the start.
Fog rolled in for the last hour.
